AppExchange image

Salesforce’s Appexchange is an excellent source for business applications, Lightning components, resources, partners and developers listings. In other words, the AppExchange is a goldmine for Salesforce users which can help supercharge your use of the platform. The key features that allow users and administers to evaluate apps are:

  • Peer reviews
  • Product documentation
  • Screenshots and videos
  • (In some cases) The ability to test drive the product in an actual Salesforce environment.

Believe it or not, the Appexchange has been around for over 10 years! And it remains a fast growing marketplace offering thousands of applications. And best of all, it is said that 40% of these solutions are FREE! In my time as a Salesforce consultant I’ve used a number of apps and here are a few of my favorite free ones:

1. Config Workbook

Config Workbook is definitely one for every admin’s toolkit. Unlike any other app I’ve encountered, it provides extensive insights into a Salesforce org’s metadata including fields, profiles, page layouts and more. Once run the application provides an output excel file with easy-to-read information saving an admin from spending hours clicking through the Setup menu. The screenshot below, which shows a mass of information relating to fields on an object illustrates the value of this app.

2. DataLoader.io

At its core, DataLoader.io is a cloud-based version of Salesforce’s Apex Data Loader. However, there are a few key features which make it the go-to application for mass data changes:

  1. In DataLoader.io you can see a running summary of successful and unsuccessful data loads from the past
  2. The “Lookup via” feature is a huge timesaver, allowing updates/upserts using any field as an unique identifier
  3. Very intuitive and easy-to-use interface

With its freemium model, the only downside is that the free plan only allows for 10000 record updates per month.

3. Field Trip

Third comes Field Trip. Field Trip is an awesome application allowing you to analyze field usage on any object in Salesforce. Beside being easy to use, it also allows you to see field data results in just 3 easy steps; Install application, configure a “Field trip” and then run it to see results!

4. Salesforce Adoption Dashboards

Next up: Salesforce Adoption Dashboards. Developed by Salesforce Labs, this app provides dashboards to analyze user logins, adoption of key features and related trends. All you have to do is install the package from the Appexchange and you’ll see new dashboards providing you insights on adoption within your organization. Specifically, the “Sales and Marketing Adoption” dashboard analyses and presents important metrics relating to your Campaigns, Leads and Opportunities thereby offering a great starting point for conversations with the respective teams. Simple, useful and best of all – FREE!

5. Mass Delete

Mass-Delete

Another gem from Salesforce Labs, the Mass Delete app lets users mass delete records from list views or related lists. On installation the package creates buttons, which can be added to your org’s Salesforce interface. Users can then select a number of records and delete all of them with a single click. Needless to say, security and permissions are enforced so that only users with the right access levels can perform delete actions.
